"Women's Studies Research Forum"

I really enjoyed going to observe the presentation done by my professor Angie Wilson titled "Silence No More: A Sequential Transformative Investigation of the Experience of Teenage Motherhood in South Carolina Schools." I found the topic very interesting as a health science/public health major because the social aspects influencing the pregnant teens is a factor of the health of the individual-emotionally and physically. This study seemed well researched on the background with the history of the rhetoric influencing these specific mothers from Puritan times to current social factors. It was nice to the audience to also hear about a successful story of a teenage mother by the presenter put a positive perspective on the subject which helps us to connect success with high education levels. I did find it very interesting with how many schools felt "uncomfortable" with and refused her study. I do feel like a higher sample size would have convinced the audience more, but the efforts do show. The graphs and illustrations really helped the ethos of the study. Once again, I enjoyed the presentation and was enlightened by this issue on teenage mothers and the effects of social factors on their lives.
